Cartoons - Illustrations - Animations - Comic Strips - Cartoon Workshops for Schools, Museums & Galleries and more.
"Luckily, a few folk have heard of the Dandy and Beano;
so I don't have to over-explain that bit 🙂"
In brief, I've been working as a cartoonist and illustrator for over 30 years, for clients including the Beano & Dandy comics (Blinky, Sneaker, Billy Whizz, Crazy for Daisy and others), the BBC, Oxford University Press, English Heritage, Macmillan Publishing, National Grid, Pearson Education, the Royal Cornwall Museum, Falmouth Art Gallery and the Eden Project, to name but a few!
From small private commissions to large corporate projects; from traditional comic strips to cartoon workshops; from pen and ink sketches to interactive digital content like ePub, apps and social media-ready graphics. I'm always very happy to have a friendly and informal chat about what you need.
So, please don't hesitate to get in touch. Whether you're a commissioning editor with a budget to work to, someone looking for a family gift, or a school teacher interested in hosting a cartoon workshop, I'm easy to work with (check out some of the fab testimonials folk have been kind enough to send me).
My cartoon workshops are great fun for schools, galleries, museums and any group that would like to learn some of the skills (and secrets!) of cartooning. They can be as short as an hour, as long as a day, or any length in between, catering for all numbers from individual tutoring to groups of 30 or more. In the shorter workshops you'll create your own crazy characters and in the longer ones go on to write and draw a whole comic strip about them.
You'll learn how to draw different expressions, poses, speech balloons, sound effects, about storyboarding and frame composition and much more besides. My workshops can be based around a theme; pirates, explorers, space, Hallowe'en, a school topic or an exhibition that your gallery may be hosting... anything at all. They are suitable for absolutely anybody from age 8 and upwards, whatever their drawing skills. The possibilities are endless.
"I have worked with Nick over many years on both the Beano and the Dandy, writing scripts for such as Billy Whizz and Brassneck and many, many others. Receiving Nick's brilliant interpretation of the words was always a highlight, as he has that rare gift of being 'funny' with his artwork.
His work never failed to bring a smile to my face and to millions of readers also. Nick is a joy to collaborate with and a funny, genuine, dedicated professional - truly a brilliant cartoonist!"
Craig Ferguson, Johnston Press (DC Thomson Beano/Dandy 1985-2014)
“I asked Nick to run three workshops on behalf of Feock Parish Council, these were delivered to young people from 8-16 at schools and community groups. The workshops he ran were professional and interesting, but most importantly FUN. All the groups were delighted with the pace and detail of the workshops. Nick has an innate ability to engage people and has a natural flair for getting the best out of any group. I can’t recommend his workshops highly enough if you’re looking for something fun and different to do.”
Dr. Amy Nettley, Feock Parish Council
"Nick immediately got our campaign and was able to work to very tight timescales in order to deliver. Working across three time zones wasn't easy, but it would have been even harder if it wasn't for Nick's vision, suggestions and flexibility. I thoroughly recommend him."
Sophie Hodgson, Aspectus PR
"Nick is an award-winning cartoonist who fills his work with colour and zest, in true comic-book fashion. His artwork is always keenly-anticipated. Any publisher employing humour and wit to engage readers will find Nick’s style indispensable."
